Our favourite hikes, climbs and peaks
We spent our childhood hiking these mountains, we see them every day when we look out of the window, and we feel very attached to them. That’s why we’d like to introduce them to you – maybe you will also have found your favourite peak by the time your holiday ends - reason enough to be back again.
Local hero: The Wendelstein
The municipal coat of arms carries this magnificent peak, it shows on ever so many photographs and in every local guide book. Widely known as it is we can do without an elaborate explanation.
Kleiner Traithen, descent into the Ursprung Valley
Starting point: Tannerhof
Peak altitude: 1723m
Challenge: medium
Duration: Up and down approx. 7h
Why do we love it?
Because it rises just behind the Tannerhof, and really feels like „ours“. Last not least because the descent into the Ursprung Valley leads you to the beautiful and picturesque Fellalm – a farmed mountain hut where you can enjoy typical produces from the alp.
Wildalpjoch
Starting point: Tannerhof
Peak altitude: 1720m
Challenge: medium
Duration: Up and down approx. 6h
Why do we love it?
Neighbouring the Wendelstein it offers a great view onto its big brother without being as crowded. Breathtaking views of the Großvenediger, Großglockner and the Wilder Kaiser ranges. Just as delightful are the close sights of gentian meadows in Summer, and a pretty descent via alpine huts.
Seeberg – Circular trail via Niederhoferalm and the village of Geitau
Starting point: Tannerhof
Peak altitude: 1523m
Challenge: easy
Duration: Up and down approx. 5h
Why do we love it?
Directly opposite the Tannerhof this peak is always in direct view. The sun hides behind it in Winter, and peeps out again beginning of March – this is a delightful moment for us every year. The hike leads us up past the idyllic Neuhüttn and beautiful meadows full of alpine flowers. Up on the peak you can wave down at the Tannerhof or across at the Wendelstein. The descent via the Niederhoferalm, a charming farmed alpine hut, will have you gasping at the sublime Miesing. Following the Leitzach river back to Bayrischzell you can look up at where you have been earlier this day.
Auerspitz
Starting point: Ursprung Valley, Sillberghaus Parking
Peak altitude: 1810m
Challenge: easy / medium
Duration: Up and down approx. 5,5h
Why do we love it?
Because it is never crowded, and because the sunny path above the Wirtsalm offers a gorgeous view of the Sonnwendjoch massif and all surrounding peaks. You will be peacefully walking in mere solitude while observing the crowds on the neighbouring Rotwand. The descent will lead you past the pastoral Soin alp huts. It couldn’t be better!
