A central element of the programme: detoxifying fasting after the Buchinger method — medically supervised, clearly structured and deliberately gentle. In place of solid food comes a precise fasting rhythm of vegetable broths, light soups, freshly pressed juices, herbal teas and water. Not "nothing," but the right thing. At the right time. Intermittent hypoxic-hyperoxic therapy. A health training programme to enhance physical and mental fitness. The essence of Father Sebastian Kneipp's hydrotherapy. As simple as it is brilliant. Alternating hot and cold affusions invigorate and refresh. They strengthen vascular regulation and the immune system. We begin slowly and work up to just above your knee.
Over the course of your programme, the follow-up medical consultation serves to recalibrate and fine-tune: we discuss what's changed, respond to current feedback and adjust measures where needed. The aim is medically grounded support that keeps the process steady — and meaningfully carries it forward.
During fasting, this wrap is much-loved to boost circulation and stimulate the metabolism of the liver. Hay enclosed in a soft fleece is warmed, releasing its aromas. The hay-flower wrap should rest in place for around 20 minutes. Naturopathy's "morphine" — antispasmodic and pain-relieving on the inner organs.
In this massage, various techniques suited to fasting can be combined for you individually: abdominal massage, lymphatic drainage of the head, foot reflexology, back massage.
The precious Königsöl ("King's Oil") with more than 30 herbs and medicinal plants is intensively massaged in. Its special composition stimulates the skin's metabolism; the skin becomes silken and fresh. A wonderful companion treatment for fasters. Through firm, at times pinching massage holds, it loosens stubborn deposits in the connective tissue and supports the body's de-acidification.

Body Detox is medically supervised therapeutic fasting following the Buchinger method. It begins with a medical history-taking in which our doctors clarify your starting point, risks and goals. Across the eight or ten days, circulation, sleep and fluid balance are tracked with medical diagnostics (lab work, bioimpedance). Therapies such as IHHT altitude training, Kneipp contrast affusions and hay-flower wraps support the fasting metabolism in targeted ways. At home, that medical guidance is missing – and usually so is the quiet the body needs for a deeper shift.
Body Detox suits healthy adults who want to give their metabolism a rest. Before each stay, our doctors review your medical history and any medication. The programme is not suitable during acute illness, advanced cardiovascular or kidney conditions, eating disorders, pregnancy and breastfeeding, in markedly underweight people, or in children and adolescents. For chronic conditions, diabetes or regular medication, we decide individually whether fasting is possible and in what form.
The programme moves through four phases. Day one is the medical check-in: history, examination and bioimpedance. Before the actual fasting start, one to three relief days help; on the first fasting day, Glauber's salt clears the gut and reduces hunger. The fasting days follow, with herbal tea in the morning, a mild vegetable soup at midday and freshly pressed juice in the evening. Kneipp contrast affusions, hay-flower wraps to support the liver, fasting massage, IHHT and breathwork accompany the process. The final days belong to the build-up – around a third of the fasting time – and the closing medical consultation. Method details: Buchinger method at Tannerhof.
During the fasting days, mornings are a herbal tea, midday a mild vegetable soup (with an extra cup of broth if you wish), and evenings a freshly pressed fruit or vegetable juice. Plus herbal teas, mineral water, hot ginger water or water with freshly pressed lemon – at least three litres a day. That supports circulation and de-acidification via the kidneys. Coffee, alcohol, sweets and solid meals pause entirely. On the relief days before the fasting core there's light food (a fruit, potato, vegetable or raw-food day), and during the build-up, alkaline-rich meals.
The 8-Day Basic starts at €1,010, the 10-Day Advanced at €1,305 – each a programme package, excluding accommodation. The package includes the initial medical history and examination, follow-up consultation, the closing consultation, bioimpedance analysis, the fasting cuisine and a tailored therapy programme (IHHT altitude training, Kneipp contrast affusion, hay-flower wrap, fasting massage, detoxifying massage with Königsöl, acidosis massage, breath therapy after Herta Richter). Accommodation, further lab analyses and additional treatments are billed separately.
Eight days are enough to bring the fasting metabolism, circulation and fluid balance into a controlled shift. For first-time fasters we recommend the ten days – seven days of pure fasting plus around three days of build-up, which has proven optimal. If you have clear health goals, a longer pure fasting time makes sense. Arrival is Sunday, Tuesday or Thursday. The recommended minimum stay is seven days; shorter stays don't, in our experience, lead into a stable fasting shift.
The first two to three days are the most intense. On what's called the changeover day – usually day two or three – the body switches from glucose to fat metabolism; weakness, shakiness, mild nausea or headaches can appear in this phase. A strong green tea with honey reliably helps. From day three onwards, most guests report lightness, a clear head and stable energy – some experience the well-known fasting euphoria. Warmth, enough fluids (at least three litres) and quiet matter most.
The build-up is as important as the fasting itself and should take roughly a third of the fasting time. It begins at Tannerhof: the apple on the day you break the fast stands symbolically for conscious chewing – each bite thirty to forty times. Two to three days of gentle re-introduction follow, with alkaline-rich, vegetable-led meals. In the closing consultation you get concrete recommendations for the time afterwards. The focus is on regulation, metabolic rest and a clearer energy balance; weight loss can be a welcome side effect but isn't the main goal. Many guests extend their stay directly with our Nutrition programme, to embed new eating habits and practise everyday low-carb routines.
Yes – moderate movement is part of the Buchinger method. It protects muscle from breakdown and supports de-acidification through deeper breathing. Walks, easy hikes in the Tannerhof surroundings, aqua gymnastics and breathwork are ideal. Intense strength training, competitive sport and long mountain tours don't fit the fasting phase – circulatory reserves are reduced. Our weekly programme includes guided hikes and aqua sessions that match the fasting phase.
