Recovery in Bayrischzell: What Sets the Tannerhof Apart
Why wellness here means medicine, timber and quiet

If you are looking for a wellness hotel in Bayrischzell, the Tannerhof is not an ordinary spa. This Naturhotel builds on therapeutic rigour, medical expertise and architectural places of quiet such as the BadeHarpfe, for guests who want substance rather than show.
Key points at a glance
- The Tannerhof is not a conventional spa hotel but a quiet health resort with therapeutic rigour and doctors on site.
- The award-winning BadeHarpfe pairs timber architecture that measurably lowers the pulse with a 25-metre naturally filtered outdoor pool.
- The water and heat facilities, including the historic sauna cabin, are reserved for overnight guests and covered by the room rate.
- Modern approaches to calming the nervous system have been lived here for generations, as real time out in nature.
What wellness actually means here
Anyone looking for recovery in the Bavarian Alps runs quickly into polished marble, tightly timed sauna rituals and loud infinity pools. We chose a different route. Alpine seclusion, architecture close to nature and medical substance combine here into a quiet way of refuelling. For some guests that means medically supervised fasting in our therapeutic fasting programmes, for many others the unhurried pleasure of our 3/4-Takt. That culinary concept serves regional slow food from our organic-certified kitchen. Fasting cure or comfortable stay: what matters at the Tannerhof is not staging or brief distraction, but genuinely arriving at yourself in a place that lets you breathe.
As a family-run Naturhotel and health resort, we are a spa resort of a particular kind. For our guests that means no loud entertainment and no densely packed schedules. Anyone expecting event sauna infusions, party music at the poolside or high-colour spa effects will be happier elsewhere. Anyone looking for space, unfussy hospitality and honest slowing down finds their personal hideaway in the mountains here. This is where health and wellness regains its original meaning: deep regeneration for body and mind.
- Substance instead of scenery: no staged wellness worlds, but pared-back architecture and grown nature.
- Quiet as an inner state: no piped-in sound, but room to breathe and pause.
- Medical support: recovery with therapeutic rigour, carried by scientifically grounded concepts.
- Exclusivity for house guests: no day visitors, but undisturbed privacy across 16 hectares of land.
BadeHarpfe, natural pool and sauna cabin
The bathing and sauna area on our 16-hectare grounds settles into the Upper Bavarian landscape like a small mountain village. Its architectural centrepiece is the BadeHarpfe, a modern reading of the traditional alpine hay-drying racks. The airy structure of solid timber holds a generous panorama sauna, bright relaxation rooms and a cardio and strength area. Directly in front of it lies the 25-metre, naturally filtered outdoor natural pool, which offers biologically filtered swimming without chlorine.
Research shows that this plain construction in local timber does more than look good: it calms the autonomic nervous system. In classrooms built from solid wood, researchers measured a lower heart rate, a higher heart-protecting vagal tone and less subjective strain. The BadeHarpfe houses the Finnish panorama sauna, and the historic sauna cabin from 1936 adds to it. Built from fragrant Kelo wood, it combines a Finnish sauna with a mild bio sauna. The covered indoor pool allows year-round swimming with a clear view of the Wendelstein.
| Facility | Character | What makes it special |
|---|---|---|
| BadeHarpfe | Modern timber architecture with panorama sauna | Finnish panorama sauna at 85 °C with an open view into the valley |
| Outdoor natural pool | 25 metres of lane length, purely biological filtration | Chlorine-free swimming in spring-fresh water |
| Historic sauna cabin | Traditional 1936 building in Kelo wood | Finnish sauna and mild bio sauna at 55 °C |
| Indoor pool | 12.4 x 8 metre pool | Clear water with a mountain view towards the Wendelstein |

Treatments with time and medicine behind them
One thing sets our health philosophy apart above all: recovery and medical care are tied closely together. Where conventional wellness hotels line up treatments on a tight clock, every treatment on the mountain slopes of Bayrischzell is marked by attentiveness, therapeutic rigour and deep professional grounding. Treatments are not isolated cosmetics. They are effective impulses that support the body's own self-regulation.
The medical team and our experienced therapists shape every session individually. Our in-house catalogue runs to more than 50 single treatments: deep-acting massages such as the acidosis or honey massage, ozone autohaemotherapy, vitamin infusions, altitude training (IHHT) and individual art therapy. In practice that means treatments with a tangible therapeutic basis, far from esoteric concepts, that take real weight off body and mind. The rest periods after each treatment are not merely recommended. They are scheduled.
- Medical expertise: holistic advice and support from the medical team in the house, including modern procedures such as altitude training (IHHT) and ozone autohaemotherapy.
- Therapeutic range: a broad catalogue of more than 50 treatments, from classic and connective-tissue massages to fascia work and art therapy.
- Time to integrate: generous rest periods as a fixed part of the treatment, so that each session can do its work.

Quiet, and everything included
The pool area, the saunas and the generous relaxation rooms are open to overnight guests only. That retreat creates a space of stillness where guests move freely, without crowded loungers or a changing public. For more than 120 years the house has stood for this deliberate protection of personal space.

A second structural difference lies in transparent pricing. Use of the whole spa, including the BadeHarpfe, saunas, pools and fitness rooms, along with the varied movement programme of daily classes such as yoga, pilates, aqua fitness or guided hikes, is fully covered by the room rate. A deliberate digital unburdening completes the concept: the free-standing Hüttentürme and Lufthütten have no WiFi or LAN by design, and no televisions in the rooms as standard. That leaves room for what matters. Check-in is from 3 pm, check-out by 11 am.
| Area | Included in the room rate | What you gain |
|---|---|---|
| Spa & pools | BadeHarpfe, outdoor natural pool, indoor pool and saunas | No hidden fees or extra charges |
| Activity programme | At least three offerings on six days a week (e.g. yoga, pilates, aqua fitness, hikes) | Free participation in movement and relaxation |
| Digital time out | WiFi-free cabins and no televisions in the rooms | Undisturbed sleep and lasting mental recovery |
Give yourself a breathing space in the Bavarian mountains and experience honest regeneration well away from everyday noise. Read more about spa and wellness at the Tannerhof and plan your next retreat in nature.
